Our Wound Care services cater to all persons and especially those living with diabetes.

Small insect bites, cuts and scrapes are often overlooked and if not attended to early and properly can often deteriorate and require more extensive treatment. Similarly, pressure sores (bed sores) can quickly become infected if proper care is not administered. Here are some of the questions frequently asked by our patients:

  • What is a wound?

    A wound is defined as an injury that breaks the skin or other body tissue.

  • What causes wounds?

    Wounds are caused by insect bites, accidents or surgery.

  • How are wounds classified?

    Wounds are classified based on the length of time they take to heal.

    a) Chronic wounds fail to heal or respond to treatment over an expected period of time.

    b) Acute wounds are expected to progress through the normal phases of healing, resulting in closure.

  • When do you seek medical attention for a wound?

    • If you have been punctured by any rusting metal,If you have signs of an infection such as fever, pain, redness, swelling or discharge.
    • If the edges of the wound do not stay together.
    • If the wound fails to heal.
